miscellaneous Flashcards
define likelihood ratio (LR)
LR= probability of finding x being present in those WITH a certain disease
probablity of finding x being present in those WITHOUT a certain disease
Ex: 0.5 probablity (50%) of fluid wave present in those with ascites
0.1 probability of fluid wave present in those WITHOUT ascites
LR= 0.5/.01= 5
What do the values of likelihood ratios signify?
LR range is from zero to infinity
LR < 1 indicate decreased probability of disease
LR close or = to 1 are of no diagnostic value
LR >1 indicate a higher chance of disease. The higher, the stronger the association with the disease
