miscellaneous Flashcards
small cell lung cancer
Chemotherapy
non-small cell lung cancer
Surgery > chemo/radio > palliative
pleural effusion (pleural fluid)
underlying cause
mesothelioma (asbestos)
1.pleurodese effuesions (TALC)- keeps lungs glued to pleura
2.normal cancer management
pneumothorax (air/gas pleural cavity causes lung to collapse)
oxygen
-tension pneumothorax (needle decompression- 2nd ICS mid-clav)
-spontaneous pneumothorax (i) aspiration (ii) chest drain-5/6 ICS mid-clav (iii) surgery
Rhinitis (congestion, runny nose, sneezing)
- intranasal anti-histamine (azelastine, loraditine)
2.intranasal chromone (sodium cromoglicate)
3.corticosteroids (beclometasone if worse for few days)
bronchiolitis (inflammation of bronchioles), bronchiectasis (excess mucus)
supportive, symptom relief
TB
active-RIPEx2, RIx4
latent- RIx3 Ix6
CNS affected- RIPEx2 RIx10
Rifampicin Side effect
red/orange pee/tears
isoniazid
peripheral neuropathy (tingly toes/fingers)
pyrazinamide
joint pain/gout
ethambutol
optic neuritis (colour blindness)
sarcoidosis (enlarged lymph nodes=granulomas, multisystem)
corticosteroid if vital organ affected, immunosuppression
extrinsic allergic alveolitis
(develops after allergen exposure)
oxygen, steroids, antigen avoidance
IPF (thickened alveolar wall)
corticosteroids+azathioprine (immunosuppression)
lung transplant if young
