Misc Resp Meds Flashcards
Bronchodilators: Albuterol (Salbutamol)
a selective beta-adrenergic agonist; relaxes smooth muscle; bronchodilitation, drives K+ intracellularly
Racemic Epinepherine
Stimulates both alpha- and beta-adrenergic receptors; acts on vascular smooth muscle to produce vasoconstriction, which decreaes blood flow at the capillary level-shrinking upper respiratory mucosa and reducing edema; useful in patients with postextubation stridor
IPB-Ipatropium Bromide (atrovent)
may be used in combination with albuterol in the management of CLD; rationale for use in NN with CLD is due to the presence of functional muscarinic receptors in premature infants; bronchiodilitation in infants with BPD, ; decreases respiratory resistence; combination of IBP and albuterol achieved the greatest decrease in resp system resistence with increases in compliance in ventilated patients with BPD
Inhaled Steroids
use in not evidence based
iNO
Direct pulmonary vasodilator, Potent, selective, sustained pulmonary vasodilitation decreasing pulmnary vascular resistance and improving oxygenation; usual starting dose is 20 ppm
