pH and glucose - low in malignancy, empyema, TB, RA, SLE
Amylase - for pancreatitis, malignancy and oesophageal rupture
Cholesterol - for chylothorax
Cytology

How do you classify aortic stenosis?
By AV area (severe <1cm)
By pressure gradient (severe >50mmHg)
What is Heyde’s syndrome?
Increased risk of GI bleeding from angiodysplasia in presence of AS
Due to activation of vWF as it passes through tight valve under sheer stress -then is rendered inactive hence bleeding in gut
