Complete the information below
COPD interfers with airflow & gas exchange, leading to increased (1) ______ , (2) _______, (3) ________.
These physiologic changes increase the clients risk for (4)_______, (5)________, (6) ________

Right-sisded HF
Metabolic Acidosis
Respiratory Alkalosis
Pulmonary Infex
COPD interfers with airflow & gas exchange, leading to increased CO² Levels, sputum production, Pulmonary Pressure
These physiologic changes increase the clients risk for Pulmonary Infections, Hypoxemia, Right-sided HF (Cor pulmonale)
COPD = Alveoli become inflated and trap CO², leading resp acidosis
Inflated alveoli collect mucus, increase sputum production, risk for infection.
Oscillating PEP device
(vibratory positive expiratory pressure device)
Use (Disases)
Create vibrations when you breathe out.
The vibrations move mucus from the surface of your airways.
After blowing through the device several times, the person huff coughs to clear the mucus from the lungs and out of the body.
CF / Anything with lots of mucus
Best oxygen mask choice for COPD patient
Venturi
Albuterol take 2 puffs for emergency relief of asthma symptoms.

Cetirizine
Class
Dosage
Use
SE
Contradictions
Antihystimine (2 gen)
Itchy, watery, node/ eye & urticaria
SE drowsiness
Careful if liver disease present
Terazosin (alpha blocker) is prescribed to reduce HTN. It is also prescribed for ease symptoms of urinary retention associated with….
Benign prostate hyperplasia
Most common SE of Terazosin (alpha blocker) prescribed to ease urinary retention associated with Benign prostate hyperplasia
Orthostatic Hypotension
Sexual Dysfunction
Possible
Tachycardia/ Syncope
Why would a client taking Cetirizine have to talk with his dr. If he’s now prescribed Terazosin for Benign Prostate Hyperplasia
Cetirizine (Zyrtec) is an Antihystimine which has water retention effects.
Terazosin is an (Alpha blocker) which dilates vessels allowing to urinate better
Benign Prostate Hyperplasia occurs when the Prostate (Surrounding the urethra) Enlarges and pinches the urethra. (UTI, Post-void dribbling, Urinary frequency, incontence, Retention)
This can be determined by a doctor via.
Digital Rectal Exam
PSA Prostate Specific Antigen >4
Creatine,BUN, WBC (UTI)
Finasteride
Tamsulosin
Tadalafil
Election medication relaxes muscles in prostate gland
5 Alpha Reductase inhibitor. Shrinks prostate by manipulation of hormones
Alpha one blocker relaxes muscles in prostate gland (Improve Urine Flow)

TURPS
Transurethral Resection of the Prostate
Is used for…
Urinary voiding problems associated with BPH
Patient has bright red urine output following TURPS surgery
1st response
Increase continuous bladder irrigation rate
If CBI continous bladder irritation becomes obstructed following TURPS surgery, what do you do?
WHAT DO YOU DO!!!
Turn off CBI
&
Irrigate using large piston syringe
1 day postop Turps Surgery. Notice output from 3-way urine catheter bright red & thick like Ketchup with multiple clots. Priority Actions
- Manually irrigate urinary catheter with NS
- Remove catheter with clots and place a new one
- Increase flow of bladder irrigation system
- Ask client to contract bladder muscles and attempt to void
- Dispose of bloody output in a biohazard bag
- Report to surgeon immediately
- Monitor hemoglobin & hematocrit levels
