Othello
-general in venetian army
-successful position bring high status
-black man in predominantly white society
Iago
-works for Othello in army as assistant
-jealous of Cassio’s promotion to lieutenant
-thinks highly of himself
-racist and disrespectful to Othello
-after his arrest he refuses to speak
Cassio
-young inexperienced soldier promoted to lieutenant over lago
-truly devoted to Othello
-accused of having an affair with D
-in end takes the commander position and sentences lago
Rodrigo
-lago’s assistant/friend (helps his plot)
-jealous of Othello as he’s in love with Desdemona but was denied by father
-is killed by Iago in attempt to frame C after they fought and he was wounded
Brabantio
-Desdemona’s father
-senator in Venice ( high postion and wealthy)
-displeased by Othello’s and his daughter’s secret marriage (racist)
Desdemona
-noble venetian lady
-secretly marries Othello and declares her true live for him at senate
-doesn’t believe any woman would cheat on husband (argues with E)
-smothered and killed by a mad O who believes she is cheating
Emilia
-married to lago
-Desdemona’s servant/friend
-steals D’s handkerchief and gives it to lago (but is unaware of his plot)
- Iago suspects she and O had an affair at some point
-after she discovers his plot, reveals it, and tells O that D loved him (and didn’t cheat) she is stabbed by lago
