Q

LEVEL I

A

Level I signifies the most basic preservation where systems are kept clean,
free of water and fluids are maintained full. Level I is associated with old preservation Type D, except the storage time is limited to 90 days to prevent damage to fuel and electronic systems. The barrier system used is tape and barrier (T&B). Short term preservation procedures are found in the MRCs for each model aircraft. The instructions in this section do not replace those in the MRCs.
(a) Level I. Tape and barrier material is used to cover sensitive areas and prevent contamination from entering the interior of the aircraft.

43
Q

LEVEL II

A

Level II is similar to Level I. Aircraft systems are kept clean, and operational
fluid levels are maintained full. In addition, selected systems are drained of operational fluid,
protected with a coating of preservation fluid, and statically dehumidified. Of all the selected
systems, preservation of the fuel system and power plant system are the most significant.
Level II is similar to old Type A3. Level II barrier systems include strippable coatings, T&B,
and top covers.
(b) Level II. A top cover, or tape and barrier is applied to the aircraft exterior and af-
fords an increase in protection from Level I.

44
Q

LEVEL III

A

Level III preservation adds static or dynamic dehumidification, to the entire
aircraft or removed system/component, to Level II. Level III is similar to old preservation Type
A2. Level III barrier systems include portable shelters, drop shrouds and flexible bags.
(c) Level III. The aircraft/system is enclosed in a bag or inside of a rigid shelter, and
dehumidified to provide the best possible protection

45
Q

What instruction is issued to give guidance on the use of a special tool?

A

A TIMI may be prepared when a directive or situation requires that technical information be promulgated within an activity. When it is necessary to disseminate information, such as techniques and local policy, which does not direct the accomplishment of specific work at definite intervals, but which is sustaining in nature, a TIMI may be issued.
