mirrors Flashcards
if the angle of X is 43° what is the measure of angle Y?
43° because the angle of the incident right equals the reflective ray
what is the angle of Z if the angle of X is 43?
The angle of Z is 37° because 90° minus the degree of the incident ray equals 37
What are two rules of reflection on plane mirrors?
The angle of incidence is equal to the angle of reflection
The incident ray reflective ray in the normal exist in the same plane ( in front of the mirror )
if you’re looking at an image through a mirror, what does it appear to look like?
same size same location, but inverted
describe the image produced by a plane mirror using SALT
Same size, upright,, same distance, virtual
Describe the image always produced by convex mirror
smaller, upright, between V and F, virtual
Draw and describe the rules used to locate images in a concave mirror
use the 4 rays to find the image
what is refraction?
Bending of light
When does refraction occur?
when light rays transmit through medians of different densities
example from air to water —> water is the highest density than air
when does the reflected rate bend towards the normal or away from the normal?
when the light ray moves from an area of low density example air to an area with higher density example oil
What is the difference between real image and virtual image?
Real equals image appears on the same side of the mirror as the object
virtual equals image appears on the opposite side of the mirror than the object
Describe two pieces of evidence that indicate light travels and straight line
shadows: when light is blocked by an object, it has a shadow. The sharp edges of the shadow suggests that light travels in straight lines. If light were to curve, the shadow would be blurry or distorted, but since shadows have a distinct well defined edges this supports the idea of light travelling in the straight pat
pinhole camera : a pinhole camera works by allowing light to pass through a small hole and project an image on the opposite side. The clear and sharp image produced by the camera indicates that the light travels in straight lines from the object through the pinhole to the screen, forming a distant and accurate representation of the object..
