-the understanding that scientific theories give us true (or approximately true) descriptions of the world. that the world is mind-independent: it exists rhe way it is regardless of what we think about the matter
-they believe that miracles are real events brought about by God (or someone empowered by God). God exists as a real being transcendent and unobservable, who created and cares for the world
