17
Q

What happenes in Prophase?

A

The chromatin tightens to form visible chromosomes. The
nuclear membrane disintegrates. A network of spindle fibres
forms.

18
Q

what happens in metaphase

A

Chromosomes line up in the centre of the cell. One sister chromatid faces one side of the cell and the other sister chromatid faces the opposite side.

19
Q

what happens in Anaphase

A

The sister chromatids are pulled apart to opposite sides of
the cell, which is guided by spindle fibres.

20
Q

what happens in telophase

A

The chromosomes are at opposite sides of the cells. Spindle
fibres break down. The nuclear membrane reforms around
each new set of chromosomes.

21
Q

Explain the difference between mitosis and cytokinesis.

A

Mitosis is the process of division of the nucleus. It is followed by cytokinesis, which is the division of the
cellular cytoplasm to complete the formation of two new daughter cells.

22
Q

How do mitosis and cytokinesis differ between plant and animal cells?

A

In animal cells, cytokinesis begins with the cell membrane pinching inward, which eventually leads to division into two cells. In plant cells, a cell plate forms in the middle of the cell. It contains the materials needed for new cell membranes and cell walls that will separate the new cells. After the cells split in two, a new cell wall replaces the cell plate.

23
Q

what does meiosis make

A

Is a process that contributes to genetic variety to make sperm and egg cells.

24
Q

What must happen before meiosis can start?

A

The stage interphase means the cell is growing, DNA replication and functions.

25
When does crossing over happen?
During prophase 1
26
What do you have at the end of meiosis
the original diploid cell has become four haploid cells
27
What happens during crossing over?
When the chromosomes are lined up homologous pairs, they have a way to transfer their genetic information and exchange it between each other
28
What part of the cell pulls the chromosomes away during Anaphase I?
They are pulled away from the spindle fibers
29
what is the basic unit of life
cells
30
What is in the nucleus Mitosis
in each body cell it has 2 copies of each chromosomes with a total of 46 chromosomes and 23 homologous chromosomes
31
Function of Mitosis
Growth of an organism Repair tissue / organs Replace dead cells
32
Interphase
growther and intense cell activity
33
Mitosis
cell nucleus and genetic material divide
34
Cytokinsis
division of the cell cytoplasm and creation of new cells.
