A
P - Pain
I - Irregularity
L - Loss of function/movement
S - Swelling
D - Deformity
U - Unnatural Movement
C - Crepitus
T - Tenderness

What are the rules of splinting?
A
- immobilise joint above and below injury
- align only if necessary
- allow patient to direct comfort
- ensure circulation and neurological function
- evidence suggests most of head, upper limbs and thorax (excluding spine) fractures do not need splinting in traditional sense
