A
- He has no outlet for his hostile tendencies, he has no job or money

A
- He is presented as a wealthy businessman who spends long periods of time away from his family.
- He becomes the managing director of the factory where Mickey worked before Mickey was made redundant.
- He seems indifferent to the people whose lives he can directly affect - his workforce. He sends Mickey a heartless redundancy letter.

What kind of father is Mr Lyons?
A
- He is a distant figure to his wife and son, preferring not to get involved in their affairs.
- Provides money and homes in wealthy areas as well as expensive schooling for Edward

Why might Mr Lyons’ character have affected how Eddie is able to show his feelings?
A
- Because he is always away and never shares any emotion with his son himself, Eddie may feel emotionally incomplete
- His father’s life is very business centred, which could lead Eddie to believe money is a driving factor of life as opposed to emotion
