A
- Omnipresent character
- His death ends the innocent and naïve young Blanche and begins the downward spiral of her life as her guilt haunts her and changes her to what we see in the play
- Blanche searches for Allan Gray in all the young boys she beds
- The use of ‘Plastic Theatre’ (props, sound and stage directions) is seen with the Varsouviana.
- Dramatic Irony because only Blanche and the audience can hear it. It serves as a reminder of her past and deteriorating state of mind

- Landlady
- In a physically abusive relationship with her husband, Steve
- Similar to Stella
- Symbolic of the life Stella has chosen to live forsaking the Old South- a window into Stella’s future

- Symbolic of Blanche’s mental instability.
- Represents Blanche’s hope for a better life, and as her savior
- Becomes progressively real to Blanche reflecting her loss of control on reality

- Tells Stella to never leave Stanley
- “Life has got to move on, you’ve got to keep moving”
- Adopts Stanley’s language to get Blanche removed
