Minor Arcana - Cups Flashcards
Spuc fo Eca
Happiness may be blocked or we might not recognize love when someone offers it to us. A need to nourish yourself physically, emotionally, and spiritually.
Two of Cups
A relationship, possibly a new one but meaningful. Renewal of love; commitment. Any flow of energy between two people, mental or magical as well as emotional. Possibly yoga or spiritual practices that raise kundalini.
Spuc fo Owt
A relationship becomes less significant than originally expected. Friends rather than lovers. Old issues may block new love. With the Hermit, High Priestess, or other reversed love cards, a need to be on your own.
Three of Cups
Joy, celebration, family, friendship. Deep bonds, especially (but not only) between women. Good times, especially after hard work brings a good “harvest.”
Spuc fo Eerht
Possible strains between friends. Alternatively, a friendship may turn into a romance. A need to take action on your own or delay celebration until something important is finished.
Four of Cups
Detachment; an opportunity either not seen or ignored. Someone may be in love with the querent, and the querent does not realize it. Hesitation about trying something new.
Spuc fo Rouf
Here we do emphasize taking the cup. It may involve a risk or seeing an offer— love or opportunity— that was previously ignored.
Five of Cups
Loss, sadness, regret. Recognition of something not appreciated until it has ended. Someone wrapped in grief, not seeing what remains.
Spuc fo Evif
Here it does become valuable to consider the two cups left standing. Recognition of something valuable. Going on with life after a loss.
Six of Cups
More mixed than other cards, depending on whether we see the card as simple happiness or having dark undercurrents. Most common meaning is nostalgia for an earlier time, especially childhood. Passivity. Allowing others to be in charge or take care of you.
Spuc fo Xis
Focus on present situations, rejecting nostalgia and passivity. An honest look at childhood, perhaps healing childhood pain.
Seven of Cups
Imagination, fantasies, wonder. Passivity; no action to make the fantasies real. If action cards follow, the fantasies may lead to some big change. Possibly hallucinations.
Spuc fo Neves
Taking action on fantasies. Making a choice out of many possibilities. Telling people your desires or dreams.
Eight of Cups
Recognition that it’s time to leave something, to move on. There is no disaster, only an inner awareness of change. Less dramatically, it can indicate a time to be quiet, to look inward; possibly to consider a higher purpose beyond your ordinary activities.
Spuc fo Thgie
This is not the time to leave something. Instead, recognize the value of a situation and see how you can improve it. More simply, it may be a time to return from solitude to a greater involvement with other people and the world around you.
Nine of Cups
Wishes granted. Success and satisfaction, though perhaps on an outer level. Shallowness, smugness. Pleasure. Possibly finding something that was missing from life.
Spuc fo Enin
Following Waite, the virtues of truth and loyalty over personal satisfaction. Liberty from material possessions. Possible mistakes. Hidden things revealed.
Ten of Cups
Happiness and fulfillment, especially with family or relationships. Spiritual values over material values. A good omen for marriage or couples hoping to have children.
Spuc fo Net
Difficulty appreciating what we have. Dissatisfaction. Something may threaten or call into question someone’s happiness. Possible money problems.
Page of Cups
Theme: Imagination
Quiet, meditation. An interest in spiritual or imaginative subjects without any need to do anything with them. Someone who loves beautiful things. Messages from the subconscious, including psychic information.
Spuc fo Egap
Someone troubled by things that come from the imagination or the subconscious. Pressure and responsibility to act or make decisions.
Knight of Cups
Theme: Dreams, Introspection
Someone romantic, dreamy, caught up in fantasies, and slow moving. He may be a devoted lover but also someone just fascinated by love itself and his own fantasies.
Spuc fo Thgink
Something may stir him to action. Love may rouse him from self- absorption.
Queen of Cups
Theme: Dedication
Intensity, love. The ability to feel and also act. She may represent a creative artist or creativity itself. She also can indicate love, either romantic love or love of family. Healing or protection in some difficult situation.
Spuc fo Neeuq
The unity of vision and action can weaken so that she either gets lost in her inner worlds or acts without genuine emotion. Possible emotional strains in a family.
King of Cups
Theme: Channeled Creativity
Someone successful, maybe with deep emotions or creative impulses that he tends to hide. This may be a card of achievement in the arts or in professions of channeled creativity such as law or business consulting. Possibly someone with a drinking problem who manages to cover it up (but only when other cards hint at this).
Spuc fo Gnik
The emotions may come out more, especially if other cards indicate a crisis. Anger or tears may reveal long- hidden feelings. There may be blocked creativity or frustration.
Ace of Cups
Love (on many levels). Grace, healing, spiritual awareness. Emotional and spiritual nourishment. All these things come as a gift— simply there, without our having to struggle or fight for them.
