Alarm phase
Fight, flight, or freeze stage; can cause increased heart rate and respiration
Resistance phase
Source of stress may be resolved, but the body is creating a long-term protective mechanism; can cause anxiousness and irritability.
Exhaustion phase
Final stage where energy supply is depleted; most dangerous to officers health
What are some effects of stress on police officers?
PTSD; emotional detachment; suicide; reduced morale; marital problems; excessive aggressiveness
