Milgram Variations Flashcards
How was variation 7 different from the original?
The aim was to see if proximity has an effect on obedience level
- experimenter left the room and gave instructions over the phone
Results of experiment 7

How was variation 10 different from the original?
The aim was to see if changing from prestigious Yale would have an effect
Participants were recruited through a mail-slot. They were told research was being conducted by ‘research associates of Bridgeport’. Was conducted in a rundown office building.
Results of experiment 10

Conclusion of experiment 10
Less authority leads to less obedience
How was variation 13 different to the original?
The aim was to study the impact of power relations on obedience. It was to see how an ordinarily dressed man giving instructions would effect the results.
Experimenter didn’t tell teacher what level of shocks to give.
Experimenter received a phone call to leave the room. Told the teacher to keep the learner practicing the words.
The learner decided to increase the shocks every time he got them wrong
Experiment 13 results
Only a 20% obedience level
Experiment 13 conclusion
Appearance impacts obedience
