A

Counting population within defined area on map, usually 25x25m or 50x50

Repeat 15 times

Mutliply up to estimate population within your area

What is ratio correlation in reference to population estimates?

A

Based on estimate that a certain proportion of a population will present to hospital / clinic

eg: 1% of population go to hospital per day. You receive 100 patients that day. You could estimate the population to be 10,000

What is chain referral method with reference to estimating populations?

A

Each time you see a patient, ask them if they know anyone else in the same situation as them –> chat to those referred and ask them the same –> etc etc etc

Benefits = fast, cheap, gather detailed demographics, access hard to reach people such as homeless, IVDU
