What is a biography?
An account of someone’s life written by someone else.
There are 2 types of character. What are they?
Dynamic and Static
What is 1st Person?
The character IS in the story, relating his or her experiences directly. (Using “I”)
What is 3rd Person Limited?
The narrator is outside of the story and relating the experiences of a character. The story is about “he” or “she.”
What is 3rd Person Omniscient?
The story is still about “he” or “she,” but the narrator has full access to the thoughts and experiences of all characters in the story.
What is Setting?
The place and time in which a story takes place.
What is Plot?
The way an author develops a series of events in a text.
What is Irony?
Contradiction between what is expected and what actually occurs.
What is Verbal Irony?
The use of words to mean something different from what a person actually says.(ie. Sarcasm)
What is Foreshadowing?
A hint at what’s to come within the story.
What is Dramatic Irony?
The audience is aware of something that the characters in the story are not aware of.
What is Situational Irony?
When the exact opposite of what is meant to happen, happens.
What is Theme?
The overall message of the story.
What is Symbolism?
A person, place, thing, or event that resembles something more than just it’s literal meaning.
