Conceptual planning
Identify project site, Ownership & stakeholders, Need for restoration, Restoration goals, Site conditions and stressors, Biotic landscape interventions
Preliminary tasks
Appoint a restoration practitioner, Site documentation, Pre-project monitoring, Reference ecosystem, Permits and legal constraints, Project duration and funding
Recovery wheel sections
Absence of threats, Physical conditions, Species composition, Structural diversity, Ecosystem function, External exchanges
Implementation planning
Interventions, Passive restoration, Performance standards
Implementation tasks
Implementation (begin fieldwork), Monitoring installation, supervision
Post-implementation tasks
Maintenance and protection, mid-course corrections, monitoring
Evaluation and publicity
Performance evaluation, Cultural goals, Publicity and reporting
Concept plan
-provide high-level, preliminary framework for a project, guide that outlines initial ideas, goals, and objectives for the project
-defines overall vision and key objectives of the project, helping everyone involved to understand what the project aims to achieve
Project proposal
-document used to define the goals, objectives, targets and requirements of a project
-main purpose is to get buy-in from decision-makers to get your idea/project approved/funded
-a formal plan that shows why a project is necessary, how it will be carried out and why it should receive support
Principle 1
Global contribution: ER contributes to UN SDGs, and addresses biodiversity loss, climate change, and land degradation
Principle 2
Broad engagement: ER ensures social fairness and equality by involving diverse stakeholders and partners, all voices are heard and represented
Principle 3
Many type of activities: ER covers a spectrum of activities–> restoration continuum
Principle 4
Benefits to humans and nature, highest level of recovery: ER strives for the best possible recovery of ecosystems–> restoring biodiversity, ecological integrity, ecosystem health and human well-being
Principle 5
Addressing causes of degradation: ER addresses direct and indirect causes of degradation–> deforestation, pollution, socio-economic drivers, governance issues, land-use changes
Principle 6
Knowledge integration: ER integrates scientific research, local, traditional and Indigenous knowledge
Principle 9
Monitoring and management: ER requires monitoring, evaluation and adaptive management throughout and beyond lifetime of project
Principle 7
Measurable goals: ER sets well-defined ecological, cultural and socia-economic goals–> ensuring measurable, targeted and sustainable in short, medium, and long term
Principle 8
Local, land/seascape contexts are considered and replication: Involvement of all levels of government, NGOs, stakeholders and private sector. Designed in a way that allows scaling up
Principle 10
Policy integration: ER needs to be supported by strong governance frameworks, policies and legal mechanisms
Concept plan
-provide high-level, preliminary framework for a project, guide that outlines initial ideas, goals, and objectives for the project
-defines overall vision and key objectives of the project, helping everyone involved to understand what the project aims to achieve
Project proposal
-main purpose is to get buy-in from decision-makers to get your idea/project approved/funded
-converts an idea into the details of a potential project including deliverables, major risks, costs, stakeholders, and an estimate of resourcing and time required
