Midterm Study Guide(Science Flashcards
How do plants get their energy?
Plants break down Glucose produced in photosynthesis (Producers)
How do animals get their energy?
Animals get energy by consuming other organisms (Consumers)
What is the equation for photosynthesis?
CO2+H20+Energy=H12+O2
What are the reactants for photosynthesis?
Carbon Dioxide, Water, and Sunlight/Energy
What are the products for photosythesis?
Glucose and Oxygen
What is the difference(s) between photosythesis and cellular respiration?
Photosythesis-done in the chloroplast, produces glucose and oxygen, can only be done by producers.
Cellular Respiration-creates ATP for organisms, can be done by producers and consumers, done in the mitochondria
What are living things made of?
Cells
What is the function of the Chloroplast?
Traps light energy and changes it for food for the cell using photosythesis
What is the function of the Golgi Bodies?
Modifies/packages proteins and creates lysosomes
What is the function of the Cell Wall?
provides protection and structure for plant cells
What is the function of the Nucleus?
provides the instructions for making proteins and controls the cell.
What is the function of the Vacuole?
A storage bubble within the cell to hold excess food, water, or waste.
What is the function of the Endoplasmic Reticulum(E.R.)?
A collection of tubes that can transport proteins and fats throughout the cell
What is the function of the Lysosomes?
these breakdown excess, unwanted, or worn-out cell parts
What is the function of the Ribosomes?
responsible for creating protiens and can be attached to the ER
What is the function of the Cytoplasm?
the gel-like substance that is responsible for holding the organelles in shape and providing the cell with shape.
What is the function of the Cell Membrane?
the outer layer of an animal cell that regulates what goes in and what goes out.
What is the function of the mitochondria?
changes the energy that the cell gets from it’s food into a form that the cell can use.
What are the major differences between plant cells and animal cells?
Plant Cells- Square and cell wall+chloroplast
Animal Cells- Circle and no cell wall/no chloroplast
What is Newton’s first law?
An object in motion stays in motion, an object at rest stays at rest, unless acted by an outside force.
What is Newton’s second law?
Force= Mass x Acceleration. The relationship between force, mass, and acceleration is all connected.
What is Newton’s third law?
Every action has an equal and opposite reaction.
What are the 5 parts of a transverse wave?
Rest point, crest, trough, wavelength, and amplitude
What is reflection?
Reflection is when light or sound waves bounce off a surface
