Midterm Review Flashcards
What units do we use to measure shutter speed?
Fractions and seconds.
Give an example of a fast shutter speed.
1/4000
What is the fastest shutter speed on your camera?
1/4000
What impact does a fast shutter speed have on the way your picture looks?
It will freeze motion.
What impact does a slow shutter speed have on the way your picture looks?
It will blur motion.
What happens if you use a slow shutter speed without a tripod?
You will experience camera shake.
Give an example of shutter speed that would freeze a person walking.
1/500
Give an example of shutter speed that would give you a blurry image of a car driving past.
1’’
What is the the slowest shutter speed that you can reliably handhold without a tripod?
1/60
What is aperture?
A series of metal blades that open and close to control the amount of light entering the camera.
What does it mean to make an exposure 1 stop brighter?
It means to make the exposure 2 times brighter.
Give an example of an exposure one stop brighter than iso 400, 1/60 at f8.
iso 400, 1/60 at f5.6
How much brighter is one stop brighter?
One stop brighter is 2 times brighter.
What impact does making your aperture a larger hole have on the way your picture looks?
It will make the picture brighter and give shallow Depth of Field.
Is f4.0 a larger hole than f11?
Yes f4.0 is a larger hole than f11.
Does f4.0 have more or less stuff in focus than f11?
f4.0 has less stuff in focus than f11.
Name 2 things that affect Depth of Field besides your aperture.
Subject camera distance and focal length (how zoomed in or wide angle you are)
What is the difference in the way an external light meter measures light compared to your cameras light meter?
Camera light meters measure the light reflecting off of the subject and light meters measure the light falling on the subject.
What is white balance?
White balance is the process of removing unrealistic color casts, so that objects which appear white in person are rendered white in your photo.
Identify what white balance should be used to take a picture Outside in the sun.
Daylight
Identify what white balance should be used to take a picture standing in the shade.
Shade
Identify what white balance should be used to take a picture under fluorescent lighting.
Fluorescent
Identify what white balance should be used to take a picture in a room full of bright windows.
Daylight
Identify what white balance should be used to take a picture lit by our regular studio lights(DPs, not LEDs)
