Gender Binary
The belief that all humans can be placed into male or female categories (includes gender identity and expression)
What are common sense beliefs (CSB)?
Widely known and potentially shared beliefs/explainations about the social and physical world held by people in society (or subcultures) not to say that everyone agrees with CSB
Process of Objectification
Ideas not seen as being attributed to anyone in particular, can’t pinpoint where it came from, who originated it, as a result a certain kind of legitimacy to those beliefs not seen as personal opinion of individual which transforms it to an idea of objective knowledge and viewed as unbiased and factual.
Describe how race is socially constructed
For race to be a meaningful biological concept it requires demonstrating greater homogeneity in the gene pool of a particular group of an organism compared to the degree of homogeneity between groups within that organism
-Race is cultural, political, economic, but not biological.
What is the phenotypic morphology of organism
outward appliance, observable characteristics
What is genotypic morphology of an organism?
Genetic makeup, inheritable genes and genetics
What is the “Welfare state”?
When the government has taken the role as a provider and protector of individual well-being and security.
Expanding the “social wage”
What is “Neoliberalism”
Rejection of the welfare state, it is free market doctrines and practices with minimal government interaction. The market determines social values.
What are the two specific aspects of neoliberalism that are specific to Canada?
Increasing integration with the USA and Transformation of the relationship between the federal state and the provinces
