Midterm OP Group 1 Flashcards
What is the origin of the Gluteus Maximus?
Posterior iliac crest, sacrum, coccyx, and sacrotuberous ligament and fascia over TFL and gluteus medius.
What is the insertion of the Gluteus Maximus?
Iliotibial band (ITB), gluteal tuberosity of femur.
What actions does the Gluteus Maximus perform?
Extension and lateral rotation of hip. Upper fibers: Abduction of hip. Lower fibers: Adduction of hip. Posterior pelvic tilt.
What is the innervation of the Gluteus Maximus?
Inferior gluteal nerve.
What is the origin of the Gluteus Medius?
Outer ilium between posterior and anterior gluteal lines just below iliac crest.
What is the insertion of the Gluteus Medius?
Greater trochanter (superior and lateral).
What actions does the Gluteus Medius perform?
All fibers: Abduction of hip. Anterior fibers: Flex hip and medial rotation. Posterior fibers: Extend hip and lateral rotation. Stabilizes pelvis and prevents free limb from sagging during gait.
What is the innervation of the Gluteus Medius?
Superior gluteal nerve.
What is the origin of the Piriformis?
Anterior surface of sacrum.
What is the insertion of the Piriformis?
(Superiormedial aspect) of greater trochanter.
What actions does the Piriformis perform?
Lateral rotation and horizontal abduction of hip; abduction of hip when thigh is flexed.
What is the innervation of the Piriformis?
Nerve to piriformis.
What is the origin of the Psoas Major?
TPs of L1-L5, vertebral bodies and discs of T12-L5.
What is the insertion of the Psoas Major?
Lesser trochanter.
What actions does the Psoas Major perform?
Flexion of hip and lumbar stabilization; flexion and lateral flexion of spine; anterior pelvic tilt and lateral rotation of hip.
What is the innervation of the Psoas Major?
Lumbar plexus ventral rami.
What is the origin of the Superior Gemellus?
Ischial spine.
What is the insertion of the Superior Gemellus?
Medial surface of greater trochanter.
What actions does the Superior Gemellus perform?
Lateral rotation and horizontal abduction of hip.
What is the innervation of the Superior Gemellus?
Nerve to obturator internus.
What is the origin of the Quadratus Femoris?
Ischial tuberosity.
What is the insertion of the Quadratus Femoris?
Intertrochanteric crest of femur.
What actions does the Quadratus Femoris perform?
Lateral rotation of hip; weak adduction of thigh and horizontal abduction when hip is flexed.
What is the innervation of the Quadratus Femoris?
Nerve to quadratus femoris.
What is the origin of the Tensor Fasciae Latae?
ASIS (anterior superior iliac spine) and anterior aspect of iliac crest.
What is the insertion of the Tensor Fasciae Latae?
Iliotibial band (below greater trochanter).
What actions does the Tensor Fasciae Latae perform?
Flexion, abduction, and medial rotation of the hip joint; anterior pelvic tilt and tenses iliotibial band to support femur on tibia during standing.
What is the innervation of the Tensor Fasciae Latae?
Superior gluteal nerve.
What is the origin of the Iliacus?
Inner surface of iliac fossa and sacral ala.
What is the insertion of the Iliacus?
Lesser trochanter of femur.
What actions does the Iliacus perform?
Flexion and lateral rotation of hip and anterior pelvic tilt.
What is the innervation of the Iliacus?
Femoral nerve.
