Exists to expand our awareness and understanding of life
Interpretive literature
The opposite of what is expected
Irony
What happens in a situation is the opposite of what is expected
Situational irony
When the reader has info that is not known by the character
Dramatic Irony
When the speaker or writer says the opposite of what they mean
Verbal irony
The aditude the author has towards its audience
Tone
A reference of one work of literature to a person, place, or event in another work of literature
Allusion
Someone who stays the same throughout the story
Static character
The literal or dictionary meaning of a word or phrase
Denotation
The emotion or association that a word or phrase may arouse
Connotation
Two-dimensional, relatively uncomplicated, or or two traits
Flat character
Someone who undergoes a change in the story
Dynamic character
The caparison of two unlike things using like or as
Simile
The caparison of two unlike things not using like or as
Metaphor
Incidents, quotes, or inferences from the story that substantiate (support/give evidence/prove judgment)
Proof
Areas of proposed discussion in the paper (criterion) - how will u prove ur judgment?
Criteria
The conversation between characters
Dialogue
A character has a sudden insight or realization that changers their understanding
Epiphany
Language that cannot be taken literal, appears to the imagination and provides a new way of looking at something
Figurative language
Narrator tells the story from outside the story; “cameraman”
Objective POV
All knowing narrator from outside the story
Omniscient POV
Point of view where a character in the story is the narrator
First person
Narrator who reveals the thoughts of one focal character
Limited omniscient
Not influenced by person feelings or tastes
Objective
Influenced by personal feeling, tastes, or opinions
Subjective
Person who recounts the events of a novel
Narrator
A fictional narrative in prose, generally longer than a short story
Novel
Motive of criticism that addresses bad conditions and a society concise red to be floud and aims at practical solutions
Social criticism
A circumstance that complicates something; a difficulty
Complication
Dealing with a puzzling crime, especially a murder
Mystery

Clearly expressed of fully or dr directly stated in the text
Explicit theme
Subjective writing because expresses the writers opinion
Critical analysis
When writes choose to state a fact or idea directly
Literal language
The statement of belief or opinion and implied organization of the paper
Thesis

Round character
An object , person, place or actin that has meaning in itself
Symbol
Not as important as main character but in the novel for a reason
Minor character
Some works are written purely for entertainment and do not have a clear cut theme
Escape literature
The elements of fiction work together to create a single mood

Form of language that is specific to a certain group
Dialect
At the beginning of the sentence and it helps make the story flow
Translations
An imagined place where everything is not perfect
Dystopian
The arrangement of things following one after another
