basic plot of Life of Edward II of England
Edward’s “favorite”, Gaveston, returns from exile, and as Edward becomes infatuated/obsessed with him it affects how he rules England and turns all his peers against his companionship with Gaveston. The nobility kill Gaveston, Edward declares war against his nobility, the scholar Mortimer joins the side of the nobility and also has an affair with Edward’s wife, Queen Anne. Ultimately, the war drags on until Mortimer, and Anne as an accomplice, order for Edward’s murder, only for his son, Edward III, to take the throne and avenge his father’s death by killing Mortimer and sending his mother to prison.

A small theatre company tracks the creation of Sholom Asch’s The God of Vengeance, recalling how many people advised him to burn the play and not release it.
