Q

what are the points of the kinetic molecular theory

A
  1. gases consist of molecules in motion
  2. have no force of attraction or repulsion
  3. have negligible volume because of the large space between their particles
  4. gases move in straight lien molecular motions which result in collision and pressure
  5. molecular collision occur with no loss of energy
  6. kinetic energy is proportional to temp

3
Q

relate Boyle’s law to the kinetic molecular theory

A

Gases have negligible volume due to the large space between their particles. when the external pressure is increased on gas, it pushes the gas partciles closer tether which decreases the volume. As the particles move closer together, they collide more frequently with the walls of the container which result in an increase in pressure

Q

Relate Guy-Lusaac’s law to the kinetic molecular theory

A

goes with the theory that kinetic energy of a gas is proportional to its temperature. As the temperature of a gas is increased, its partciles move quicker causing more collision with each other and the walls of their container which causes an increase in pressure.

Q

relate Charles law to kinetic Molecular

A

goes with the theory that the kinetic energy of partciles is proportional to its temperature. when the temperature increases, the partciles speed up and they have more collision with each other and the wall of their container which result in more pressure. the volume of the gases increases till it matches the external pressure

6
Q

relate Avogadro’s law to the kinetic molecular theory

A

goes with the hypothesis that molecules move in straight line causing collisions. When the number of moles is increased of a gas, they cooled with each other and the walls of their container more frequently which results in more pressure. this additional pressure increases the volume of the container until it meets the external pressure.

7
Q

relate molar volume to kinetic molecular theory

A

goes with the theory that the gas particles are negligible when talking about volume. The gas particles are so small that even though they have their own masses, their size is negligible and docent contribute to the volume.

8
Q

relate the relationship between number of moles and volume to the kinetic molecular theory

A

goes with the theory that gas particles are always moving in straight line which causes collision. as you increase the number of partciles in a gas sample, they cooled more frequently with each other and the walls of their container . This then causes and increase in pressure

Q

connect daltons partial pressure kinetic molecular theory

A

gas particles d not have any force of attraction or repulsion between them. the pressure of each gas equals the same amount it would exert if its were itself in a mixture.

11
Q

what is heat

A

the transfer of the thermals energy that occurs when two systems with different temperatures come into contact. heat will go from the hotter body to the cooler one. The transfer of heat will continue until the temperature of both substances are the same

A
  1. 0kj - melting

- 6.01kj - freezing

17
Q

exothermic reaction

A
  • releases energy
  • more energy in the reactants than the products
  • negative kj
  • freezing, condensation, deposition
18
Q

endothermic reaction

A
  • absorbs energy
  • more energy in products than the reactants
  • negative kj
  • melting, vaporization, sublimation
19
Q

what are the 3 factors that molar heat of dissolution depends on

A
  • solvent-solvent interaction: how strong solvent molecular
  • solute-solute interaction: depends on the type of solute
molecular compounds do not dissociate to make ions, they form molecules of dissolved solute
ionic compounds (two metals) they dissociate into ions and interact with water molecules
  • solvent-solute interaction - 3 stages
the partciles of the solvent have to separate
the partciles of the solute have to separate
the particles of the solvent and solute have to rearrange to create the solution
