Major types of government: define
Monarchy- king and queen
Dictatorship- have centralized power around an individual or military group.
Democracy- citizens hold the power.
Single-party state- only the ruling party governs.
Oligarchy- a small group within a large group who have more power, wealth, or talent than others.
Theocracy- gov. Headed by religious leaders.
3 types of economies: define
Market- limited gov. involvement
Command- gov. Controls the production & makes all the decisions
Mixed- half and half/ gov. Provides Medicare and healthcare
5 levels of economic systems:define
Primary- raw materials
Secondary- processing and manufacturing
Tertiary- business and professional services
Quaternary- info and intellectual services(education, research)
Quinary- high level decision making
The total value of all goods and services produced within a country in a given period of time.
Gross domestic product(GDP)
A process of interaction and integration among the people, companies, and governments of different nations.
Globalization
A period of growth within an industrialized economy or nation in which the relative importance of manufacturing reduces and that of services, info, and research grows.
Post-industrial economy
A self-sufficiency farming in which farmers focuses on growing enough food to feed themselves and their families.
Subsistence agriculture
A series of uprisings in Arab countries in which protesters challenged the existing authoritarian regimes.
Arab springs
A person who has been forced to leave their country in order to escape war, persecution, or natural disaster.
Refugee
A group which is not the majority population in any nation state.
Stateless nations
A policy/system of segregation on grounds of race.
Apartheid
An organization of nations that export large amounts of petroleum. Formed to establish oil-exporting policies and set prices.

Urbanization
Those that cause people to leave their homeland and migrate to another region.

To draw or attract people to another location.
Pull factors

Developed- have access to high tech
Developing- learning to use high tech
Underdeveloped- have no access to high tech

Culture
What are beliefs?
Religion, dress, food, the arts.
What is language?
Used to communicate ideas and feelings.(aloha)
What is the arts?
Represent an outlet of human expression, usually influenced by culture, and driven by human creative impulse.
What are relationships?
Family, friends, marriage.
What is an institution?
Any structure of social order governing the behavior of a set of individuals in a society.(education)
What is monotheism?
The doctrine of belief that there is only one God.
What is polytheism?
The belief in or worship more than one God.
The spread of cultural beliefs and social activities from one group to another.
