Midterm: Behavior Terminology Flashcards
Formal process for evaluating factors influencing behavior
Functional behavioral analysis
Events after behavior that serve to reinforce behavior (peers moving away from him)
Consequences
Tell child what the desired behavior is (“Do stay quiet and let a peer stand near you.”)
“Do” statements
Events occurring before and triggering behavior (peers coming near him, transitions)
Antecedent
Offer reward or token to elicit participation (token for not screaming)
Contingency method
Strengthens behavior; child gets something for behavior (token or small toy truck)
Positive reinforcement
Child earns reward after completing desired behavior (token for not screaming)
Token economy
Example: fatigue, illness, pain, poor self-regulation, poor sensory processing
Internal factors
Example: change in schedule, unfamiliar person, unfamiliar place, tasks greater than skill level
External factors
