psychosocial measures
- measuring persons perception of their voice problem
Mild
Normal or maybe ‘unusual’ to an untrained listener. Not distracting. Effective comm’n not impaired.
Moderate
Everyone would consider it abnormal. Sometimes distracting. Impaired comm’n in certain situations.

Goal of Voice Therapy for Kids
Ability of the VFs to adduct/close
Consistent airflow and air pressure
Pliable VFs
Maximum vocal economy (you want to ‘not work at it’)
Indirect therapy techniques
Focus is on behaviour management. Vocal hygiene Eliminating vocal abuses. Hydration Env’tal changes Relux management
Hygiene therapy
dentify the behaviour.
Shouting, yelling, throat clearing, loud whispering, smoking.
Eliminate it if possible. If not… Come up with a substitute behaviour. E.g., Shout ‘well’. HOW?
Teach how to use the substitute.
E.g., Walk up to the listener, then talk
Substitute behaviours
instead of throat clearing - long hard swallow
