type of person that just hangs around, usually wealthy man; dressed in coat, top hat, cane; people watch

french for front line; art that moves art forward in what we consider art; all these movements were part of this until they were accepted
Primitivism
European artist’s interest in other cultures, predominately African or oceanic; believed answer to modern problems but ultimately caused harm to other cultures
Synthetism
specific to Gauguin; subject/idea form and color, express invisible; subjective emotion
