Leptin
Response to food consumption, signals body to stop eating. Inflammatory agent. Large levelks in obese.
Gherlin
Produced by stomach cells, stimulates appetite,decreases energy, increases energy storage. Low levels in obese.
Insulin
Produced by pancreas, response to elevated blood glucose. Unable to function properly in obese so produces more
Adiponectin
Anti-inflammatory, decrease risk of heart attack, low levels in obese.
Estrogen
60% to 219% higher in obese women. Increase risk of breast cancer.
Hypertrophy
Increase in crosssectional area of a cell.
Hyperplasia
Increase in number of cells
Anorexia nervosa
Self starvation. body type less than 85% of ideal
Bulimia nervosa
Binging and purging. Usually within 10lbs of healthy weight.
Binging
No purge. Usually overweight or obese. Not officially recognized.
Muscle dysmorphia
Preoccupation with lifting weights
Glycogenolysis
Breakdown of glycogen and subsequent release of glucose into blood.
Gluconeogenesis
Formation of glucose from non carb sources.
Lipolysis
Breakdown of fats and release of fatty acids into blood
Hyperglycemia
Blood glucose remains elevated
