A

Exert force without moving while being closely attached to the body surface of the patients.

The force exerted should be steady and increase from light to heavy.

Release the force ffrom heavy to light pressure and then repeat.

A

It is similar to pressing each other, it is done by pressing with the practitioner’s thumb, palm, elbow continuously and forcefully.

Pressing has gentle pressure and stimulation and lasts for shorter time

Constant pressing has strong pressure and stimulation and lasts for longer time.

Pushing (Tui Fa) Technique

A

The practitioner puts their fingers, palm, or elbow on the patient’s body surface and makes one way straight movements from start to end regions.

During the movements, the practitioner should remove their hands from the end region and place back to start regions, can repeat the action.

The should is the pivot, the elbow moves which makes the palm move from top to bottom, bottom to top, left to right, or right to left.

Movement: slow and steady

Force: even and stronger than rubbing

Frequency: flexible, 50-60 times per minute

Tonify - follow the channel.

Sedate: against the channel.

A

Function: soothes the liver and pacify yang

Indication: LV yang rising&raquo_space; hypertension, headache, and insomnia.

Rubbing (Ca Fa) Technique

A

The practitioner puts their palm or fingers on the patient’s body surface and makes two way straight movements until the heat penetrates deep into the tissues.

The shoulder is the pivot, the elbow moves which makes the palm or fingers move.

Movement: back and forth, up and down, or side to side. It should be continuous and smooth without any intermittence.

Side to side rubbing on neck, sacrum, knees.

Straight rubbing on back, limbs, and shoulders.

Frequency: about 100-120 times per minutes, quicker than pushing.

Force: even and light than pushing.

promotes qi and blood circulation, reduces swelling, stops the pain, strengthens sp/st, expands the chest, regulates qi.

Wiping (Ma Fa) Technique

A

The practitioner puts thumbs of both hands on the patient’s forehead makes upward straight movements from Yin Tang to DU24 along the DU channel, repeat the action.

Or using the four/three fingers of both hands move inward to outward and outward to inward along the forehead, repeat the action.

Only applied to the forehead.

Sweeping (Shao San Fa) Technique

A

The practitioner should relax the should and drop down the elbow naturally, the elbow is the supporting point, use the tips.back of the nails of the four fingers and run the fingers along the scalp, move the forearm actively to lead the wrist waving together.

Start at the temple and follow the arch of the ear to the back of the neck (similar to GB channel)

Can treat one side at a time or both sides at the same time.

Repeat 30-50 times on each side and then repeat the set.

A

Calm and pacifies the LV Yang, dispels wind and warms channel, relieves pain, clears the mind.

A

Shao Yang headache, migraine, vertigo, dizziness, hypertension, insomnia, poor memory, common cold.

Circular Rubbing (Mo Fa) Technique

A

The practitioner puts their hand, palm, or any combination of fingers on the patient’s body surface, rub in a circular movement with lighter pressure. The pressure should only be a skin/surface level.

The practitioner’s shoulder is the pivot, wrist moves which makes the hand/palm/fingers is moving across the surface area of the skin with the circular motions.

Movement: Clockwise (tonifies) or counter-clockwise (sedates)

Frequency: 100-120 times per minute, speed also needs to be constant from start to finish.
