define culture
a core of traditional ideas, practices and technology shared by a people
what was the status of women when the constitution was written
they were the property of their husbands, no right to vote, did not participate in public life, married women had no rights at all, called “coverture”

1848, Seneca falls NY, the official first women’s rights convention, first formalized call for women’s suffrage
how is public policy made?
first- name a problem, then decide who is impacted by that problem, then you make a law to address that problem (the most basic form of pub policy is law)

what is title IX
federal law prohibiting discrimination in education systems- you have access to an equal and safe education as a woman
what is the gender pay gap
women don’t make as much money as men- varies by race
in the past why were women educated?
so they could educate young boys
what are the two different types of sex ed in the US
abstinence only or comprehensive sex ed
why do cuts to medicaid and medicare typically hurt women more than men
because women live longer and they are more likely to be poor
what is the ACA? what are some problems with the ACA?
affordable care act/ obamacare
- problems: state’s rights (states could opt in or out) so health insurance companies raised the premiums
