What is the Persistence of Vision?
Optical phenomenon , physiological we see a continual motion and we hold an image in our minds for a few secs

We are predisposed to seeing in homogenity, take red green blue and spin it on wheel your going to see one color, contributes to humans being able to see cinema

What is a flipbook?
A toy that was filled with different pages of images that contributed to one scene
What did flipbooks contribute to in terms of anticipation?
They were popular in american homes and showed that americans were anticipoating and wanted cinema.
What is a Zoetrope?
one of several pre-film animation devices that produce the illusion of motion by displaying a sequence of drawings or photographs showing progressive phases of that motion. In a vase, had a viewing window and when spun you could see multiple images.
What is a thaumatrope?
A disk with a picture on each side is attached to two pieces of string. when spun gives off illusion of movement.

It was kind of a mobile camera. Marey used it as a mobile camera which shot 12 fps, and would shoot photos of these animals becuase he wanted to paint them.
