Three waves of democracy
Sam Huntington’s theory that there were three waves of democratization throughout the world throughout history. The 1st wave was during the 19th century, beginning in Western Europe and NA. The 2nd wave began after WWII and lasted until the 60s-70s. The 3rd wave began mid-70s and is still continuing today.
Competitive authoritarianism
Democratic in appearance but authoritarian in nature.
Monarchy
Someone of royal descent is in power
Consensus democracy
Consensus decision-making to the process of legislation in democracy
Primordialism
Argument that nations are ancient, natural phenomenon.
Constructivism
Identities are not ready made but socially constructed and are being refined and redefined
Institutions
Power is in the office, not the people
