Midterm Flashcards
Knowledge management system
Manages knowledge
Blends technology with business data gathered by a company
Ex. Microsoft share point, intranet
Enterprise system
Information system that is used to perform certain functions within an enterprise
Ex. Supply chain management
Business intelligence system
Used to analyze raw data, data mining, online analytical processes, querying, and reporting
Ex. Document management system
Information systems triangle
Top: people
Bottom right side: technology
Bottom left side: process
User-center design
Everything you design is centered around user
System development lifecycle (SDLC)
Analysis- figuring out what is going on in details ⬇️ Requirements- what we want the system to achieve ⬇️ Design ⬇️ Development ⬇️ Implementation
Usability
How user friendly and availability is applied
Graphic design
Visually pleasing
Analytical design
Provides statistical information
System architecture
Set of conversions, rules, and standards employed in a computer system’s technical framework, plus customer requirements and specifications, that the system’s manufacturer follows in designing the system’s various components (such as hardware, software, and networks)
Information system types
Purpose, design, and interface
Business process
Goal directed activity with a business objective (not all systems involve information technology)
As-is
Current state (analysis of sdlc)
To-be
Future state - once improved (requirements of sdlc)
Incorporation into client meetings (why redesign a business process)
It’s just not working, costly, new technology is available, unreliable, etc.
Standardized process
Predictable experience - standardize with all employees
Ex. Starbucks, McDonalds, etc.
Principles of graphic design (crap)
Contrast
Repetition
Alignment
Proximity
Principle of graphic design:
Contrast
Achieved using visual weight and type design (font, size, weight, color, bold, italic, etc.)
Avoid contrast that conflicts - fonts too similar to each other
Principle of graphic design:
Repetition
Unifies into a coherent whole
Achieved by color and grouping symbols and signs and eliminating ones that are unnecessary
Principle of graphic design:
Alignment
Strength and organization
Principle of graphic design:
Proximity
Creates a relationship (how close things are together) Groups common interface items together Activity indicator (ie loading...)
Serif
Makes reading easier to human eye
Ex. Times new roman
San serif
Makes reading on a monitor easier
Ex. Font with clean lines
System’s development lifecycle
Describe a process for planning, creating, testing and deploying and information system
