Symptoms of anemia in general
A
- shortness of breath
- rapid and pounding heartbeat
- dizziness
- fatigue
- in mild anemia: may only see these symptoms during exercise
- skin becomes pale or yellow depending on cause of anemia
- impaired healing and elasticity of skin due to hypoxia
- abdominal pain, nausea, vomiting, and anorexia due to decreased oxygen to GI tract
- PICA- eating items that are not typically thought of as food, body is trying to replenish needed nutrients
