Primary colours; definition and what are they:
Colours not obtained by a mixture
Red, yellow, blue
Secondary colors definition and what are they:
Obtained by mixing equal parts of two primary colour
Green, orange and violet
Hue:
Any colour in its purest form lacking white and black
Tertiary colors:
Formed by mixing equal amounts of a primary color and neighboring secondary colour
Named with “primary-secondary” - blue-violet etc.
How to get earth tone colours:
Mixing 3 primary colours
Complimentary colours:
Colours falling directly across each other on the colour wheel creating distinct contrast intensifying the other
Often used for dramatic looks
Analogues colours:
Colours located directly next to each other on wheel
Minimal contrast and match very well
Often used for minimal makeup and bridal makeup
Saturation:
Pureness of a colour or dominance of the hue
Can vary in intensity
Fully saturated= truest version of the colour
Less saturated= less intense and grayer
Value of a colour:
The brightness ; how light or dark it is ‘
Light and closer to white= high value
Tint:
When white is added to a pure hue
Shade:
When black is added to a pure hue
Tone:
When gray is added to a pure hue
Warm colours:
Have yellow undertones
Range from yellow gold, orange most reds and some yellow greens
Cool colors:
Blue undertone suggesting coolness
Blue, greens violets, blue-reds,
Neutral colours:
Colors that do not compliment or contrast any other colors
Brown, grey
Oval face shape characteristics: 3
Widest at temples and forehead
Tapered down to curved chin
Balance and overall look of symmetry
Round face shape characteristics: 4
Widest at cheekbones area
Usually not much longer than wide
Softly rounded chin
Rounded hairline and full forehead

Minimize outer temple, cheekbone and jawline
Lighter on inside of the face

Lines are straight and angular
