- harmonizes the MJ
- used for sudden turmoil disorder (coming out both ends)
- goes to the LU’s opens nasal orfices

used for interior damp causing Qi stagnation
- moves Qi* strengthens ST* (for SP ST Qi stagnation patterns)
- transforms damp & stops vomit
- calms fetus : morning sickness

*its also used with tonic herbs to prevent cloying & stagnation

BÁI DÒU KÒU (white cardamom) “white teenager”
STRONGER than Sha Ren because its the teenager -used for more severe damp accumulation
- used for stifling sensation in the chest, greasy tongue coat
- warms MJ, descends rebellious ST Qi
- MOVES the QI (stonger than Sha Ren
crush & cook last 5 minutes
C/I: pregnancy

CAO DÒU KÒU (grass cardamom)
- STRONGEST of the cardamom’s*
- dries damp, WARMS MJ
(for more severe pain from cold damp accumulation in MJ)
STRONGEST TO MOVE QI
crush & cook the last 5 minutes

CAO GUO (tsaoko fruit)
FOR SEVERE DAMP & COLD (cold in MJ obstructing T&T)
USED IN MEAT DISHES to dissolve stagnation from meat
**DISPELS DAMP FROM SHAOYANG DISORDER / MALARIA
(Which also can have LV overacting on SP - effecting digestion)
crush & cook with other herbs, not just @ the end
overdose can cause vomitting, roasting reduces chances

- moves Qi downward - causing LU Qi to descend or constipation or food stagnation.

- warms & transforms PHL & directs rebellious Qi causing WHEEZING & COUGH

(sometimes can be in the Qi regulating category) (could be used w/ Bai dou Kou)
Food Stagnation Herbs:
SHAN ZHA (Hawthorne fruit)
1 for greasy food & meat (unblocks food stagnation)
- moves blood & transforms blood stasis (if charred used to stop bleeding)
- stops diarrhea (charred)
- used for CAD, hypertension, high cholesterol (raw)
- helps with breastfeeding
Food Stagnation Herbs:
SHEN QU (massa fermenta)
(made up of wheat & bunch of different herbs and then fermented in the sun)
**ADD TO PILLS that contain minerals to aid in digestion & absorption )or add to formulas where minerals would bother the ST or helps with absorption of alcohol.
-reduces food stagnation AND harmonizes the ST for cold w/ food stagnation
C/I: pregnancy or breastfeeding
FOOD STAGNATION HERBS:
MAI YA (barley sprout; malt)
reduces food stagnation & strengthens ST for STARCHY foods (noodles, yam etc)
- inhibits lactation
- facilitates the SMOOTH FLOW OF LV QI
C/I: nursing women. long term use may damage KD’s

GU YA (rice sprout)
*weaker than Mai Ya - although similar - VERY GOOD FOR CHILDREN
reduces food stagnation for RICE STARCH foods & strengthens ST
(can be used w Mai Ya to increase fx)

helps with ANY food stagnation (transforms accumulation in abd / MJ
causes Qi to descend & reduce PHL & chronic productive cough generally due to EXCESS. (LU’s receptacle of damp)
incompatible w/ Ren Shen

JI NEI JIN (chicken gizzard)
**SECURES JING , STOPS ENURESIS (BEDWETTING @ nighttime)
- transforms hardness & dissolves stones (urinary of gallstones)
-STRONGLY reduces food stagnation & improves SP function
(also for childhood nutritional impairment)
***crush & make into a powder
PURGATIVES:
DÀ HUÁNG (rhubarb root) “big yellow”
1 for HEAT CAUSED CONSTIPATION
- drains damp heat (jaundice, Lin syndrome, LV, GB damp heat)
- drains heat from the blood (reckless: vomit blood, nosebleed, constipation causing bleeding, rectal tear)
- clears heat obstructing the blood level (High fever, topically for burns or hot skin lesions)
- INVIGORATES the blood for blood stasis (trauma, amenorrhea etc) must be prepared w/ alcohol.
- for laxative: put in last 5 min*
- **for blood stasis: add in @ the beginning of cook time & use w/ alcohol
- stop bleeding: charr*
C/I: pregnancy, post partum, breastfeeding, exterior condition or cold SP - ST
PURGATIVES:
MANG XIAO (sodium sulfate) “crystal gunpowder”
SALTY, bitter, acrid, COLD
YANG MING HERB (L.I. & ST)
-purges accumulation, guides out stagnation heat in the yangming
SOFTENS HARDNESS - constipation from dryness
-clears heat & reduces swelling (mastitis, skin lesions etc)
C/I: pregnancy, elderly, period, postpartum
*use with Da Huang for sever constipation (brother/sister pair)
***dissolve into strained concoction (dont need to boil)
PURGATIVES:
LU HUI (dried aloe leaf concentrate)
MILD. CHRONIC CONSTIPATION
-fire cooks fluids down- this herb DRAINS FIRE (redness in the eyes) & guides out accumulations. (moves the stool)
-clears heat, COOLS THE LV (LV HEAT)
epigastric pain, ST pain, headaches, Gerd, ringing in the ears)
- KILLS PARASITES (roundworms)
- made into a tea - dont use for longer than 2 weeks to not be habit forming. (pill or powder)
PURGATIVES:
FAN XIE YE (Senna leaf)
(a weaker purgative although stronger than Lu Hui)
drains downward, guides out stagnation / constipation due to heat in the INTS.
(stimulates the L.I. causing peristalsis)
- *used as a tea -dont steep for too long- loses purgative effect**
- *not a moistening herb for dry stool
- habit forming
MOIST LAXATIVES:
HUO MA REN (hemp seeds)
1 HERB FOR DRY STOOLS (habitual or elderly or for pregnancy)
NOURISHES YIN, MOISTENS INTS
TONIFIES YIN & BLOOD
clears heat and promotes healing of sores
C/I: long term use can cause vaginal discharge or spermatorrhea
grind in mortar & pestle
