  1. Sayings (individual proverbs or wisdom sayings that are composed of two lines called a mashal, drawing comparisons from nature and the human world, they have a metaphorical significance)

  2. “Better Than” Sayings (compares righteousness/wisdom with wickedness/folly
    (Wisdom is better than silver or gold)

Invokes divine judgement on enemies

How can a spirit of vengeance be reconciled with Jesus’ command to love one’s enemies? How may one seek vengeance at all?

These are poems that express human emotions that call for God’s deliverance of the righteous and punishment of the wicked, both for their own sake and God’s [covenant] ; can encourage zeal for God

What are the 5 categories of Messianic Psalms?

A

Typical: strongly rooted in the psalmist’s context, but feature the experiences of Christ in select places (Psalm 34:20)

Indirect Messianic/Royal: references the Davidic king at the time, but sees Christ as the ultimate King of the Jews (Psalm 2)

Typical-Prophetic: begin in the life of the psalmist, but uses hyperbolic language that expresses what Christ actually faced (Psalm 16)

Enthronement/Kingship: speaks of the universal kingship of Yahweh which finds ultimate fulfillment in Christ (Psalm 47)

Lament/Praise: leads the reader down into suffering only to soar to thanksgiving, looking to Christ for hope (Psalm 22)

Psalm 73 acknowledges the natural wickedness (envy) even of the saints and credits deliverance to God.

What is karma theology?

A

Karma theology is the belief that if something good/bad happens to you, it is in reponse to a good/bad deed that you have done. Job counteracts this by presenting a blameless Job with a great disaster befalling him. 3 of his friends condemn him, but God declares him innocent.
