Augmentative and Alternative means of communication, involves clinical practice, research and education, temporary or permanent, aided or unaided, evolves with the person, direct or indirect, serves individuals with complex communication needs, different technology, graphic icons or orthography.
Primary purpose is to support independence and participation.
Assistive Technology definition
Item, piece of equipment, software program, or product system that is used to increase, maintain, or improve the functional capabilities of persons with disabilities.
Purpose of AAC
