What is MIDI
A
is a technical standard that includes hardware specifications and a protocol for the communication of electronic musical instruments or other devices (e.g. computers) so as to produce and manipulate music.

What does a MIDI file consist of?
A
consists of a list of instructions or event messages that explain what notes must be played, when they must played, and how long or loud each note should be. they hold signals that can be used to produce sound.

What are the advantages of MIDI
A
- A MIDI file uses far less storage space than an equivalent sampled recording
- The performance data can be easily manipulated

What are the disadvantages of MIDI
A
Synthesised sound often doesn’t sound realistic (but this is often the required effect)
