In this period Church became predominant power of Catholic church. In opposite to Greeks that music focused on humans music had to serve God only. Medieval ages has two parts: Dark or Early till 1000 C.E and High Middle Ages till 1500 C.E
What is the music characteristics and genres of Early Medieval ages:
Music is Monophonic with little or no presence of melody in music. The genre is called Plainchant or Plainsong. The Gregorian Chant is also called in respect to Gregory pope. This period contains Gothic also.
