What is a lord?
A landowner and member of the nobility.
What is feudalism?
A system in the middle ages where people were given land and protection from people of a higher rank.
What is the Magna Carta?
The first document to put into writing the principle that the king and his government was not above the law.
Who was Joan of Arc?
A peasant girl who believed god was sending her messages and telling her to do things.
Who is a serf?
The poorest of peasants in medieval Europe. They worked the land of their lords in exchange for protection and a place to live.
Who is a clergy?
Nobles who had their fiefs and vassals.
What is a vassal?
a person in the Middle Ages who received protection and land from a lord in return for loyalty and service.
What is the Holy Land?
Jerusalem
What is a guild?
A group of people who had the same trades.
What is a master apprentice?
Typically a teen boy who signed up with a master for about 7 years.
What is a master?
The highest position. They trained their own apprentices.
What is a plague?
A contagious bacterial disease characterized by fever and delirium.
What were the crusades?
The medieval “Crusade” was a holy war. For conflict to be considered a crusade it had to be approved by the pope and conducted against groups seen as enemies of Christendom.
What is medieval?
The Middle Ages.
What is an apprentice?
A young person, most often male, who learned a trade by working for a guild master.
