Social Construction of Race
Race and its meaning was given by society and is not a reality but a collective agreement that has no actual backing
Privilege
when one group has something of value that is denied to others simply because of the group they belong to rather than because of anything they have done or failed to do
Institutionalized Oppression
When established laws, custom, and practices systematically produce inequalities based on one’s membership in targeted social identity groups
Microaggressions
Everyday verbal and nonverbal slights, snubs, or insults that communicate hostility to target persons based on their marginalized group
Internalized oppression
when a member of a stereotyped groups may internalize the stereotypical categories about their group to some degree
Hereditary Slave Law
any child of a slave is automatically a slave for life

sexual relations between different races
Dred Scott Decision
denied citizenship to all slaves, ex-slaves, or descendants of slaves
