mid sem test Flashcards
The law of proximity
group nearest elements, see columns not rows
The law of similarity
group most similar elements
The law of continuity
see lines as continuous even when interrupted
Binocular disparity
each eye gets a different picture of the world, the greater the difference between pictures the closer the object
Binocular convergence-
eyes looking inwards looking at closer objects- tells us where things are relative to us
Perceptual consistency
ability to maintain an unchanged perception of an object despite variations in retinal image- three main types= size constancy, shape and colour
Motion perception-
eyes moving with the image or the eyes staying still and the image moves= gives us perception on the motion
Stimulus selection
stimulus is what captures attention motivation if hungry- more likely to notice smell from restraint if hungry
Inattentional blindness-
failure to perceive a prominent object because attention is on another task
Classical conditioning
occurs unconsciously through associations between stimuli within our environment
Timing
pairing should occur close enough in time to be perceived as being related
Stimulus generalisation
CR occurs with other stimuli that are similar to the CS, but have never been paired with the UCS
Stimulus discrimination
stimuli which are similar to the CS produce a less pronounced CR (or no response at all
Extinction
gradual reduction and eventual elimination of the CR after the CS is presented repeatedly without the UCS
Fixed ratio
reinforcement after a fixed number of behavioral responses
