Mid Module Questions Practice Flashcards
What is a partition coefficient?
Ability of drug to distribute into immiscible systems.
What are the challenges of drug absorption?
Drug needs to dissolved in aqueous media.
Drug needs to cross phospholipid bilayer and pass through non aqueous layer of PB- hence needs to be hydrophilic and to an extent hydrophobic.
How many solvents are used in partition coefficient studies???
Octanol
Propylene glycol-PGDP
Chloroform
Cyclohexane
What are the mechanisms of granulation?
Adhesion and cohesion forces in immobile films.
Interfacial forces in mobile liquid films.
Solid bridges.
Attractive forces between solid particles.
NTB (Nucleation, Transition, Ball Growth).
What’s Adsoption?
A surface effect.
Electrostatic interactions between compound and surface of the stationary phase.
What is Partition?
Applies to bonded phases.
Where the stationary phase is liquid coated onto a solid.
What is ion exchange?
Solute ions in the mobile phase can exchange with similarly charged ions bound to the stationary phase.
