Microscopy P1 Flashcards
1
Q
What materials do you need to investigate microscopy?
A
For the basic method
• a microscope
• prepared slides of plant and animal cells.
2
Q
What is the equation of magnification?
A
image size / real size I / A M
3
Q
What were the two types of microscopes?
A
- Light (used in schools and investigations)
- Electrons (Higher resolution and more details)
4
Q
Explain how to prepare a slide for microscopy
A
- Using tweezers
- Put specimen stained with iodine (makes coloured and easier to see)
- Mix water drop with iodine
- Cover slip
5
Q
What components make up a light microscope?
A
- eyepiece
- coarse adjustment knob
- fine adjustment knob
- light
- stage
- high/ low power objective lenses
6
Q
How can you use a light microscope?
A
- Use first the lowest powered objective lense
- use the coarse adjustment knob to move just below objective lens
- Look through eyepiece and turn until in focus
- Adjust focus with fine knob until clear image is visible
- Until a greater magnification and higher powered objective lens
7
Q
How should you Draw your Observations?
A
- Use pencil
- Use at least half the space provided
- Do not colour or shade
- Make sure subcellular structures are proportional
- Use a title and magnification
- Label all important features with straight lines
