Microscopy Flashcards
What is the point of the microscopy practical
To find out what cells look like and see how big they are and see how they work
What is 1mm in um?
1000um
What is 1um in nm?
1000nm
What is the equasion to find total magnification?
total magnification = eyepiece magnification x objective magnification
or
magnification = image size ÷ actual object size
What are the names of the 2 microscopes?
electron microscope and light microscope
When/ why is an electron microscope used?
to see smaller objects within a cell
What is stage one of the method of microscopy?
put the slide on the microscope stage
What is stage two of the method of microscopy?
select the lowest power objective lens
What is stage three of the method of microscopy?
looking through the eyepiece, use the course adjustment knob until the cells come into focus
What is stage four of the method of microscopy?
use the fine adjustment knob to bring the cells into clear focus
What is stage five of the method of microscopy?
switch to a higher power lens
What is stage six of the method of microscopy?
use the fine adjustment knob to bring the cells into clear focus
What is stage seven of the method of microscopy?
repeat steps 5-6 with the highest lens
What is stage eight of the method of microscopy?
in pencil, make clear labelled drawings of the cells, included any component parts
What is stage nine of the method of microscopy?
write the magnification of the drawing
