Microscopic structure of bone Flashcards
Mature bone cell, shaped like a spider with a body and long process, that occupies a lacuna in the bone matrix.
Osteocytes
Matrix-synthesizing cell responsible for cell growth
osteoblast
little depression or cavity; in bone or cartilage.
Lacunae
Thin tubes occupy by osteocytes bodies.
Canaliculi
Tube-shape unit in mature, compact bone; consist of concentric layers of bone called lamellae surrounding a central canal or also called Harvesian system
Osteon
lines the marrow cavity. This layer which is active during bone growth, repair, and remodeling, covers the trabeculae of spongy bone and lines the inner surfaces of the central canals.
endosteum
provides a route for the circulatory and nervous supply and actively participates in bone growth and repair.
Periosteum
